Villagers will soon be able to post bulky items without having to trek into Canterbury city centre.
Post office services are to be launched at Rough Common Village Hall, following a six-month campaign by hall committee chairman and Canterbury City Councillor Amy Baker.
Amy, who lives in Rough Common, said the move would benefit many local residents who have had to travel to St Stephen’s since the post office was withdrawn from the village shop last year.
She said: “The loss of the local Post Office service had a profound impact on people, especially elderly residents who struggled to get to St Stephen’s.
“I’m delighted that we will be able to launch a new Post Office service in Rough Common and I hope it makes life a little easier for local residents.”
Amy had been in talks with the Post Office since the initial withdrawal of the service. The new facility will operate from Rough Common Village Hall on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. A launch date is yet to be confirmed but it should be in the next few weeks.
